The Story Behind Hidden Vale: Lavender, Sage, Chamomile, and Cedar

Some spaces stay with us because they ask nothing from us.

Hidden Vale began with that idea.

It was created around the memory of places that feel tucked away from the noise of the day—not because they remove what we are carrying, but because they give it somewhere to rest beside us.

The Place Behind the Name

The name Hidden Vale came before the finished candle.

“Hidden” suggests something private and held close. A place that does not need to be explained to anyone else.

“Vale” suggests a low, sheltered landscape between higher ground.

Together, the words describe a place we may return to in memory: quiet, familiar, and removed from urgency.

That belief shaped the scent.

Hidden Vale was never meant to arrive loudly. Its notes were chosen to remain restrained, with herbs and florals held against a dry wooden base.

How the Hidden Vale Scent Comes Together

Lavender opens the fragrance with a soft floral character.

White sage and chamomile follow, adding a dry, herbal layer. The sage gives the blend definition, while the chamomile keeps it from feeling sharp.

Cedar sits beneath those notes. It gives the fragrance a wooded base and keeps the lavender from becoming overly sweet or powdery.

Together, lavender, white sage, chamomile, and cedar create an herbal candle that feels measured rather than overpowering.

It is floral without being delicate, wooded without becoming heavy, and herbal without smelling medicinal.

Where Hidden Vale First Appeared

Hidden Vale was first introduced at WIPA NYC’s Fourth Annual Wellness Day.

That early introduction mattered because the gathering centered on care, reflection, and connection—the same kind of intentional space that shaped the candle’s name.

At the time, Hidden Vale had not yet been released publicly. Sharing it there allowed the scent to enter the world in a setting that reflected its quieter character.

The candle is now part of the Set Forth NY collection, but that first gathering remains part of its story. The original article recorded the candle as “coming soon”; Hidden Vale is now available through its live product page. 

A Candle Beside Ordinary Rituals

Hidden Vale does not create stillness or ask a room to become something different.

It can simply remain beside the rituals already taking place.

The Hidden Vale candle is hand-poured in New York and carries notes of lavender, white sage, chamomile, and cedar.

Its scent remains close to the idea that first shaped it: a place held quietly, returned to without explanation, and allowed to remain.
