A Gentle Kind of Freedom: A Note for the 4th of July
Share
While the sky cracks open with fireworks and laughter drifts through open windows, maybe you’re sitting quietly tonight. Maybe you’re scrolling your phone under a blanket while the world feels miles away. Maybe you’re missing someone who once made this day feel like summer meant something.
If that’s you — I see you. I know how loud loneliness can be when everything else is loud too.
This holiday is about freedom. And while some freedoms are big and loud — sung in anthems and bright explosions — some are soft and private, found in the small choices we make for ourselves.
I started Set Forth NY because I needed tiny, steady lights to hold onto in the dark. A reminder that comfort doesn’t have to wait for someone else to show up — sometimes it’s in your own hands. Sometimes it’s a flame in a quiet room.
Tonight, if the noise outside feels too much, light something softer. Brewed Radiance, Seaside Passion, Lustrous Tides, Lush Mornings — or any flame that reminds you you’re still here, still worthy of warmth.
To the ones sitting quietly tonight while the sky explodes — I see you. I light a candle for you. May you feel held, exactly as you are.
Here’s to the gentle kind of freedom: the freedom to feel what you feel, to honor your heart, to find comfort in your own small rituals. May your light be steady tonight.
I’m lighting one with you.
